Yesterday, I had the opportunity to sit in on some targeted, pre-conference break-out sessions at the LMA Annual Conference. One session I was excited to attend was Developing your Communication Skills to Gain Influence and Increase your Effectiveness in your Role. The session focused on marketing and business development issues that firms face every day. The session included everything from law firm economics to ramping up media and public relations.
During the session, Jonathan Fitzgarrald, Director of Marketing at Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger LLP, hit a home run with attendees with his real life examples and political scenarios. His presentation discussed how to communicate with multiple personalities, managing expectations, general management skills, and one of the hardest things in a firm - learning how to say “no.”
I caught up with him after the presentation, and he shared his top 5 best practices to take in consideration when working in political environments within professional services firm - especially a law firm.
